Sensei Gene started his martial arts training in the year 1963. His father was stationed in Japan during the war and he learned judo and passed this onto Sensei Gene. In 1978 he found USA Goju-ryu. Despite several encounters with Goju-ryu masters, such as Teruo Chinen Sensei, he only changed to Oknawan Goju-ryu after he met Master Morio Higaonna. In 1983 he started his own Dojo and still teaches out of the Spokane Family Karate Centre today. He has reached the rank of 7th Dan in Goju-ryu but is also a practitioner of several other martial arts, including Iaijutsu. He is chief instructor of IOGKF USA and travels regularly to attend and teach Gasshuku events all over the world.

Sensei Gene's martial arts training stretches right back to the year 1963, over half a century.

7th DEGREE BLACK BELT

Sensei was awarded this grade in 2015 by Supreme Master, Sensei Morio Higaonna in Okinawa.

USA CHIEF INSTRUCTOR

Sensei Gene is the IOGKF country head for the United States of America, appointed by the world chief.
