2021 will see the 50th consecutive year of martial arts training for Sensei Joe Roses. He began his martial arts training in Jujitsu where he achieved the rank of 2nd Dan. He then focused on Karate achieving the rank of Shodan in the Kyokushinkai style. In 1975 Kyokushin split in Australia with several high ranking instructors joining Higaonna Sensei - Sensei Joe being one of them. This saw the start of a relationship that has spanned nearly half a century. Sensei Joe has spent periods of time studying under Higaonna Sensei in California and in Okinawa. He has taught and attended Gasshuku's in Africa, Oceania, Asia, Europe, North and South America. He is regarded in Australia as the IOGKF's best kept secret. He teaches out of his Bonython Dojo in Canberra, which is the oldest martial arts club in the capital.
Sensei Joe Roses has been teaching Goju-ryu Karate since 1975. He is also a 2nd Dan in Jujitsu.
Sensei was awarded this grade in 2012 by Supreme Master, Sensei Morio Higaonna in Okinawa.
Sensei Joe has taught at Gasshuku events in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America, Chile and more.
